The Egypt national football team, colloquially known as “Pharaohs”, represents Egypt in men’s international football, and is represented by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), the governing body of football in Egypt. Egypt has won the African Cup a record seven times. On the international stage, Egypt has participated in the World Cup three times and was the first team outside of the United States and Europe to participate. Egyptian National Football Team
The first Egyptian national football team was formed in 1920, the first African football team to compete in the Summer Olympics in Belgium. Their opening match of the campaign was lost against the Italians. Between 1958 and 1961, the country had a political alliance with Syria and went by the name of the United Arab Republic.

Africa Cup
Egypt first participated in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 1957. In their first game, a semi-final, they faced Sudan, winning 2–1. Egypt won the final 4-0.
In 1959, in their second appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt was again champions. Only three teams, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt, went unbeaten in the tournament. They lost their first final in the 1962 Africa Cup of Nations.
Egypt Performance

In their opening match, Egypt beat Guinea 4–1 and drew 1–1 with Ghana, beating Congo Kinshasa 1–0. Egypt finished first, thus advancing to the next round, where they faced Sudan. Egypt eventually lost their first game at the Africa Cup of Nations, 2–1, then won the third-place match, 3–1 over Ivory Coast.
2019 Africa Cup
At the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, hosts Egypt were knocked out by South Africa in the round of 16 despite three wins in the group stage. At the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt went through to the final despite a terrible performance in the group stage and defeated Ivory Coast on penalties after a 0–0 draw. Egypt then beat Cameroon 3-1 on penalties after a 0-0 draw to reach their 10th final, beating Ghana’s record for finals appearances. Egypt suffered their first of two defeats at the hands of Senegal in 2022, with Sadio Mane scoring both winners on penalties.
FIFA World Cup
Egypt has qualified for the FIFA World Cup three times: in 1934, 1990, and the 2018 editions. Egypt was the first African country to qualify for the World Cup by defeating Mandatory Palestine. They lost 4-2 to Hungary in their first and only match in 1934.
In 1990, Egypt qualified by beating Algeria 1–0 in the play-offs. They were draw into Group F with Ireland, England, and the Netherlands. As the Egyptians favored a defensive strategy, [citation needed] they only scored one goal in the 1990 World Cup. A 1-1 draw with UEFA Euro 1988 champions the Netherlands gave the Egyptians their first point at the World Cup. This was followe by a draw against Ireland and a 1–0 loss to England.

2018 FIFA World Cup
In the 2018 World Cup, Egypt was draw with Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay, and hosts Russia. He started his first game against Uruguay, without Salah, who was injure in the UEFA Champions League final. Despite this, they lost 1–0, and goalkeeper Mohamed El Shinawi was name man of the match. He declined the prize because of Budweiser’s sponsorship. Egypt Football History.
Salah returned to the starting line-up when Egypt faced Russia. Russia took a 3-0 lead, and then Salah scored Egypt’s first World Cup goal in 28 years.
Egypt Best Team
Egypt’s third and final match was the Red Sea derby against Saudi Arabia, who are also out of contention after two losses. Essam Al Hadri became the oldest player in the World Cup at the age of 45 years and 161 days.
