Sarfaraz Khan Birth and Early Life
Mumbai is where Sarfaraz was born on October 27, 1997. Naushad Khan, Sarfaraz’s father, was a Mumbai Ranji Trophy cricket player as well. Musheer and Moeen Khan, Sarfaraz’s two brothers, are also aspiring cricket players. Sarfaraz, who grew up in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, spent much of his early years at Azad Maidan, where his coach, his father, developed young players such as Kamran Khan and Iqbal Abdulla. The Mumbai Under-16 team is captained by his brother, Musheer.

Sarfaraz Khan Domestic Career
At the age of twelve, Sarfaraz made history in 2009 when he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 45-year-old Harris Shield record by hitting 439 off 421 balls, which included 56 fours and 12 sixes, in his debut match. At the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2014, Sarfaraz made his match-winning debut against Saurashtra, scoring 17 runs off of 15 balls in a narrow victory. A few months later, in the 2014 Ranji Trophy, he faced Bengal in his first-class debut. Sarfraz then signed on to play cricket for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. But throughout three seasons, the middle-order batsman for UP only made eight appearances in Ranji games. In just 11 first-class matches as of September 2019, he had amassed 535 runs, including a career-high 155. He had also played 12 List A matches, scoring 257 runs at a strike rate of 96.25.
Sarfaraz Khan Under-19 Career
Sarfaraz returned to playing for the Mumbai Under-19 side following a cooling-off spell, and he ultimately helped the team qualify for the Indian Under-19 squad. In two Under-19 World Cups, Sarfaraz competed for India (2014, 2016). India placed sixth in the round-robin 2014 Under-19 World Cup, which featured 16 teams. With a strike rate of 105.5 and an average of 70.33, Sarfaraz scored 211 runs in six games. He was signed for $5 million by the Royal Challengers Bangalore of the Indian Premier League for the 2015 season as a result of this performance. Sarfaraz had the second-highest run total at the end of the competition. In six innings, he scored 355 runs at an average of 71, with five of those scores being more than 50. He is the record holder for the most World Cup fifty-fives at the Under-19 level.
Sarfaraz Khan IPL Career
Sarfaraz, who spent four seasons with Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers, became well-known after hitting an undefeated 45 against the Rajasthan Royals. An iconic moment was created as RCB captain Virat Kohli bowed in front of the 17-year-old. The Mumbai-born batsman was signed by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) before the 2019 IPL season after being released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and he was retained for the 2020 season. He scored 180 runs in eight games during the 2019 season. He made five appearances in the 2020 Indian Premier League and scored 33 runs at an average of 16.50.
The Delhi Capitals paid Rs 20 lakh for Sarfaraz in the 2022 Indian Premier League super auction. In 2022, he participated in six Delhi matches and amassed 91 runs at a 30.33 average. In the 2023 Indian Premier League, Sarfaraz replaced Rishabh Pant as the Delhi Capitals’ wicketkeeper-batsman. He amassed 53 runs at an average of 13.25 in four games.
Sarfaraz Khan International Debut
In 2024, Sarfaraz Khan made his Indian debut following injuries sustained by KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja during the opening Test match against England. On February 15, 2024, at Rajkot, Sarfaraz made his debut for his country against England in the third Test match. He was run out at the non-striker’s end after scoring 62 runs off 66 balls in his opening innings. There were also nine fours and one six throughout his innings. With his half-century, he now has a record with Hardik Pandya from 2017 for the fastest half-century by an Indian cricket player making his debut.

In August 2023, Sarfaraz wed Romana Jahur, a Kashmiri girl, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian area. From the same Delhi college where Sarfaraz’s sister studied, Romana obtained an MSc. Romana and Sarfaraz were introduced by his sister, and they dated for a while before getting married. Her family, including her wife, broke down in tears and cheered Sarfaraz on during his historic debut Test match when Anil Kumble gave him the Indian Cricket Team cap.
